Ready for Take-Off
Contemporary German Export Architecture
An increasing number of German architects are "Ready for Take-Off".
The architecture studios selected for the show are currently all working to
realise their first major projects outside the country. If we ignore the very
few large offices, what is new is that the studios not only plan projects for
other countries , but manage and realise them on location.
If you cast a glance round the architectural community you will soon see that
there is no German architectural office among the big players in international
brand-name architecture. Yet the time seems to be right for German export architecture.
Qualities such as innovation potential, the embedding of the design in the respective
urban context or high standards in developing of technical solutions, together
with the classical German secondary virtues such as conscience, reliability
and punctuality may be decisive to win competitions and construction contracts
outside Germany.
Together with their respective engineering partners, the architecture offices
present a current project outside Germany in this exhibition. This is accompanied
by the presentation of a completed project in Germany, with both elements describing
the way the architects work.
The topic "Ready for Take-Off" - heading for new horizons - is visualised
in the exhibition as well as the values and virtues for which the architects
stand out. The exhibition design is the brainchild of Architekturbüro Deutschland,
an alliance of eight renowned German architectural and engineering offices,
that considers itself a think tank destined to jointly promote architecture
Made in Germany.
